Bring your instruments and questions about the music industry and jam with two renowned musicians, Monika Herzig and Jamie Baum, who have led their bands around the globe. During this jam session, we’ll play music together with improv coaching, and take some time for a Q&A on building a career in jazz and finding your own voice.
Jazz pianist/ composer Monika Herzig leads the group Sheroes which recently performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival, DC Jazz Festival, Jazzmandu Festival in Kathmandu, and major clubs in the US, India, Egypt, Germany, Austria, and more. She has released more than a dozen CDs, three books, and is currently Professor of Artistic Research at Jam Music Lab Vienna. Flutist/ composer Jamie Baum regularly leads the DownBeat Award polls in the flute category. She has received among many others Guggenheim and Chamber Music America composition awards, and has performed with her Septet+ at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Jazz Club and countless major international venues. They will be happy to share improv tips as well as wisdom from many years on the road.
